AUTUMN 2024
Our Brunswick/Kew team won the 2023 Spring Division 4 Pennant and were again winners in the 2024 Autumn Pennant. Clare Newton competed in the Division 4 Pennant with David Pryor competing the Division 3 Brunswick/Kew team.
AUTUMN
Three Kew Golf Croquet teams competed in the Autumn Challenge with two Level Play teams in Division Two and one Advantage Play team. The Advantage Play led throughout the season but missed out winning the final game placing us third.
MARCH 2024
The Kew Gateball team captained by Philip Brown came second in the Victorian State Gateball Championship with a team from NSW led by John Park winning the competition. Alec Maclachlan (captain) and Maxine Maclachlan won the Victorian John Bradley Doubles Championship. This is not the first time the mother/son partnership has won the Doubles Competition. Well done to our Kew teams.
SEPTEMBER 2023
Congratulations to Kew White, winners of the Australian Gateball Championships Team event. Kew were the defending champions and retained the title. Rockhampton were runners up, in the game that ended in a penalty shoot out.
DECEMBER 2023
A mixed team led by Kew Croquet's Philip Brown won the South Australian Gateball Championship. The team consisted of Kew's Philip Brown, Maxine Maclachlan and David Pryor along with Tim Stagg and Jasmine Palmer from Brunswick Mallet Sports Club, Elaine Coverdale from Essendon and Cheryl O'Dwyer from Warrnambool. Elaine, Jasmine and Tim are Associate Members at Kew.
AUGUST 2024
The third Lightning Tournament was held at the Kew Croquet Club in August 2024. Initiated by Paul Roast, this friendly round robin Club tournament is a Pot Luck event with partners drawn at random to compete against the previous winning pair. After plenty of tense play, the new champions are Glenn Crook and Kerry Cannard who defeated Marlene Thornton and Lex van Schouwenburg. Winners received sparkling wine and chocolates and will have their names engraved on the Lightning Trophy.
6 OCTOBER, 2024
The coveted Bear Cup is an annual fun tournament between EMCA Clubs: Kew, Ivanhoe Park, Lilydale, MCC, Monash & Ringwood. The clubs play for a magnificent little stuffed Bear in a silver cup. This year's event was held at Kew Croquet Club, hosted by MCC and was won by Monash. Games included Helter Skelter, Target Practice and Ten Pin Croqueting.
